What is a psycho-educational assessment?  //

Psychologist Sally Powis-Campbell’s intellectual &/or psychoeducational assessment entails:

  • An initial consultation with parent(s)/guardian(s) (1 hour)
  • Review of academic reports/report cards
  • Behaviour assessment questionnaires for parents & teachers
  • Approximately 3.5-6 hours of psychological testing
  • Tests administered are the WPSSI IV  (pre-school), or WISC V (school age) & WIAT III (grades K/1–12)
  • Development of the psychological report (approximately 4-8 weeks for completion by psychologist)
  • Review session with parent(s)/guardian(s) (1 hour)

When relevant & required, additional tests or school visits may be arranged at an cost extra.

Intellectual Testing  //

WHyyc  also offers intellectual testing for children & teenagers. In entails:

  • An initial consultation with parent(s)/guardian(s) (1 hour)
  • Approximately 1.5-2 hours of psychological testing
  • Tests administered are the WPSSI IV (pre-school), or WISC V (school age)
  • Development of the psychological report (approximately 4-8 weeks for completion by psychologist)
  • Review session with parent(s)/guardian(s) (1 hour)

Where do psychological assessments take place?  //

Psychologist Sally Powis-Campbell can administer psychological assessments in her office which is prepared for standardized testing. If requested, relevant & appropriate, psycho-educational testing can take place in the child’s school.

What is the cost of a psycho-educational assessment?  //

Price  //  $960-$2500

Prices vary for intellectual testing & full psycho-educational psychological assessment from $960-$2500. The price is based on detailed consultations, test administration & report writing outlined above. Travel outside of the Calgary area (i.e. Banff, Canmore, Lethbridge), additional tests, school visits, consultations, if necessary, are at an extra cost.

Who pays for psychological assessments?  //

Private psychological services are not covered by Alberta Health Services. However, for many people the cost of accessing psychological services can be offset through employee benefits or additional insurance coverage. The Psychologists’ Association of Alberta 2016 recommended fee schedule is $190 per hour (WHyyc’s rate is $160-$180 per hour). Each treatment “hour” is usually 50 minutes allowing 10 minutes from each hour for after-session notes & other services. At the end of each session or all psycho-educational assessment related appointments, clients are issued a receipt for psychological services that may be used to obtain reimbursement from employee benefits or insurance company.

Psychologist Sally Powis-Campbell is trained in nutritional psychology, & takes  holistic approach to your child’s assessment. At the initial meeting with you the parents, we discuss the mental & physical health & activity your child engages in, as well as we discuss family & child nutrition & eating habits. The report recommendations include helpful suggestions taking in account all of the information gathered in the initial meeting as well as the cognitive & academic assessments.
